2025 Federal Transportation Improvement Program Receives Federal Approval

News

SCAG is pleased to announce that the 2025 Federal Transportation Improvement Program (FTIP) has received official federal approval from the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration. This approval marks a significant step forward for transportation projects across the SCAG region.

The 2025 FTIP, a crucial component of the 2025 Federal Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, outlines more than 1,100 regionally significant projects totaling over $38.8 billion in transportation investments over the next six years. These projects include vital highway, transit, rail, bus, and active transportation improvements.

Key highlights of the 2025 FTIP include:

  • Highway and Transit Improvements: Investments in expanding and maintaining the region’s transportation infrastructure, including new high occupancy vehicle lanes, toll lanes, and more transit services, will help reduce congestion and improve mobility.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Many projects prioritize air quality improvements by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with investments in alternative fuel vehicles, bike lanes, sidewalks, and other environmentally friendly initiatives.
  • Economic Benefits: The 2025 FTIP is expected to create 120,921 direct jobs annually, supporting the region’s economy and providing opportunities for residents.
  • Active Transportation: $1.51 billion is allocated to active transportation projects, including bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements.

The projects included in the FTIP align with the goals of the Connect SoCal 2024 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy, which focuses on enhancing mobility, creating livable communities, supporting a sustainable economy, and improving environmental quality.

This approval ensures that the SCAG region is on track to address transportation needs and meet long-term goals. SCAG looks forward to continuing to work with local, state, and federal partners to deliver these critical investments for Southern California’s communities.

To learn more about the projects, SCAG created an FTIP Interactive Project Search (eFTIP) tool that allows users to search and view details for transportation projects programmed in a current FTIP as well as use an interactive map to access a project’s location details.
