Roll to the Stroll Recap

On Friday, Nov. 22, Go Human partnered with the annual Glendora Holiday Stroll and Tree Lighting Festival to put on the Roll to the Stroll in the City of Glendora to offer community members a unique experience of Glendora Avenue. Together, the events opened up the Glendora Village between Bennett and Carroll Avenues for residents to experience street improvements that are intended to make walking and biking in the community safer and more enjoyable.

Community members had an opportunity to test and share their feedback on a parking-protected separated bikeway, curb extensions, way-finding signage, and a parklet. These potential improvements are being considered as part of the Arrow Highway Regional Corridor Plan and the recent Los Angeles Metro Gold Line First/Last Mile Plan.

Overall, Community feedback on the demonstration features was positive:

• 81% of respondents support the parklet.
• 89% of respondents support separated bike lanes.
• 87% of respondents support the curb extensions.
• 91% support way-finding signage.

Over 93% of respondents think the improvements would make them more likely to walk or bike to the future Metro Gold Line station, while 89% think the improvements make the street feel safer and more inviting. Of the respondents, over 60% had never attended a community meeting about transportation and 70% live in the City of Glendora.

The City is using the feedback gained from the event to increase awareness of walking and biking in the city and support grant funding to build permanent safety improvements ahead of the future Metro Gold Line Station. As a result of the momentum from the Roll to the Stroll event, the Glendora City Council recently approved prioritized first/last mile projects to increase safety for people walking and biking and to improve access to the future Gold Line Station.
