Students Receive 2023 SCAG Scholarships

SCAG has announced 10 students as winners of the 2023 Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) scholarships.  

The SCAG scholarship program, now in its 13th year, is intended to provide financial support to a select group of high school and community college students who have expressed interest in urban planning and public policy as part of their long-term career goals. These outstanding students will receive $4000 each to help bring them closer to achieving their dreams of receiving a college education: 

  • Angela Delgadillo will graduate from Imperial Valley College and will attend California State University Northridge with plans to major in public policy and psychology. 
  • Viviana Espino will graduate from Imperial High School and will attend the University of California, San Diego, majoring in political science. 
  • Yuzuna Kudo will graduate from Clark Magnet High School in Glendale and will attend the University of California, Davis, majoring in environmental policy analysis and planning.  
  • Gabriela Navarro will graduate from Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School in Los Angeles and will attend UCLA, majoring in civil environmental engineering.  
  • Kaylyn Ngo graduated from Katella High School in Anaheim and will attend Macalester College, majoring in sociology.  
  • Gabriela Parra graduated from Oxford Academy in Cypress and will attend the University of California, Irvine, majoring in environmental science.  
  • Vivecka Sanchez graduated from Duarte Highschool and will attend the University of California, San Diego, majoring in public health.  
  • Nolan Swanson graduated from Hemet High School and plans to attend a University of California campus, majoring in civil engineering. 
  • Matthew Walker graduated from Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga and will attend Cal State University, San Bernadino, majoring in biology. 
  • Sarah Ziff will graduate from Thousand Oaks High School and will attend the University of California Davis, majoring in political science.  

“We’re honored to have the opportunity to help these students in the next stage of their academic journeys. They are remarkable young adults and future leaders for our region,” said Art Brown, President of SCAG’s Regional Council and a Buena Park City Councilmember. 

As part of the application process, students were required to submit a completed application form, a minimum 500-word essay, two letters of recommendation and a current academic transcript.
