2024 Sustainable Communities Program – Active Transportation and Safety Award List

On Dec. 5, the Regional Council approved the 2024 Sustainable Communities Program (SCP) – Active Transportation and Safety “Project List and Contingency Project List,” a major milestone for a call for applications process opened in July.

The 2024 SCP – Active Transportation and Safety awards include active transportation-related community plans and quick-build projects that support the implementation of complete streets, transit, multimodal integration, and traffic safety policies included in the Connect SoCal 2024 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy.

SCAG, along with local and sub-regional partners, evaluated a total of 40 applications (19 for plans and 21 for quick-build projects) and selected 13 projects for funding.

San Bernardino County

Projects will be funded through the state’s Active Transportation Program (ATP) Cycle 7 regional funds, a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant, and SCAG matching state funds (to address the ATP Cycle 7 budget cuts).

SCAG staff will now begin coordinating with quick-build project awardees to initiate the environmental clearance processes under the California Environmental Quality Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. SCAG staff will continue to collaborate with county transportation commissions on the development of the ATP Cycle 7 Regional Program, which will include plans and quick-build projects funded with ATP Cycle 7 regional funds and infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
